RUBBER PLANT

One of the easier plants to take care of, the Rubber Plant makes a great accent to any room, especially the living room. They’re capable of growing very large indoors, up to 10 feet tall. They grow tall—as opposed to wide—and can be shaped into a more tree-like roundness by removing leaves from the lower part of the main stem.

There are many different varieties, ranging in colors from deep dark blackish purple to green, white, yellow, pink, and even camouflage-like patterns.

  • 60-75°F

  • Normal indoor levels

  • Bright, indirect. They especially enjoy skylights and clerestory windows, as long as the light is not too harsh

  • Allow to dry fully between waterings

  • Airy, well-draining, moisture-retentive

Recommendations: Peat, Pumice, Perlite, Vermiculite, bark, lava rock, worm castings, fern fiber

  • Roots are deep and dense with smaller networks in between. Rubber plants will often grow aerial roots for added stability.

They prefer to be slightly root bound; repot when you start seeing the roots poking up around the edges or bottom of the pot.

Prone to root rot: soil must be well- draining

Dust their leaves with a microfiber towel periodically. This allows them to absorb more light.
